After the convoy had arrived back at the base, Alex had quietly slipped away. He had to think about a few things, and at this point he had no idea how he was going to help the Revenant. At the same time, Alex could see that things were heating up again and the Revenant was growing stronger. Also, there was the pack and his family, of which he had no idea what he was going to do.
Alex sighed. He didn't like how his conversation with Ty had gone: it was his fault for starting the argument, but Alex felt that Ty had crossed the line about the demorphing thing. And Alex didn't think he or Ty would be so quick to forgive each other after that.
Suddenly, everything around him seemed to slow down, and soon everything was frozen. A bird on a branch of a tree stopped singing, frozen; a rabbit was stopped in mid-hop, hovering in the air. A voice, seemingly coming from everywhere called out and said, “ALEX SILVA.” Alex jumped at the sound of the voice, and responded, <Who are you? And what is happening?> “I am the Ellimist. I have merely suspended time so that we may converse more freely,” the voice said. <Talk to me? Why on Earth would you want to talk to me, a nothlit who’s practically useless now to anybody?> Alex questioned.
A figure materialized in front of Alex. It was a man with white hair, a beard, seemingly blue skin and pointed ears. He looked very old and wise. “I wish to speak with you about what has been happening here on Earth,” the Ellimist explained. “You see, David and the Brotherhood have unknowingly become the Crayak’s pawns, similar to how the Yeerks were his before. After they were expelled, Crayak took up David and his minions as his new pawns.” The Ellimist looked down at Alex and said, “Crayak has been winning quite greatly over the past few years, and I don’t like losing. I want to bring back in another pawn on my side.”
Alex took a second to process everything that the Ellimist was saying, when it hit him. <Are you saying that you want to bring ME back in? As in, let me morph again?> Alex asked. “Yes, it would help me to bring back an Animorph and put them into play.” He stood there for a second, then said, “It is done.” Alex looked around, but didn’t see anything different. “What is done?” Alex asked. “You can morph again,” the Ellimist said, and then Alex thought he was flying through a tunnel of sorts. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, he was standing in a familiar room.
Alex found himself standing in one of the Revenant’s planning rooms. It looked like a meeting had just ended, and there was a man with his head on the meeting table, seemingly asleep. <Why am I here?> Alex frowned to himself. He walked over, and when he saw the man’s face he froze.
It was himself, seven years ago. Alex could recognize his own face anywhere, and instantly he realized why the Ellimist had sent him back to this day. Quietly, he walked over to his own sleeping self. He pressed his nose to his leg, and soon he felt the tingling sensation that came with acquiring DNA. His old self seemed to stiffen, then relax again. Alex slowly backed away, and then he was back at the base.
Alex realized he was free to try out the morph. Concentrating on his old self, he soon felt himself changing until he was on two legs again. Alex stumbled, and had to hold on to a tree for balance for a second; it had been a while, and he wasn’t used to standing on two legs. Alex held his hands up to his face, and just said, “I can’t believe it. . .”
