Ty piloted the ship in silence, occasionally looking over at the unmanned control panel beside him, modified for a large Hork-Bajir. He couldn't believe Guraff was gone. I just wish I could've done something.... He landed on earth, in a vast wasteland that was the lake 20 years ago. Wiping a tear from his eye, he stepped off the ship, not knowing what to expect...

Iwirt was sent to inspect a suspicious ship landing at the lake. He decided to take his truck instead of flying. Morphing was fun, but sometimes a man just needs to drive a pickup. He stopped and got out when he reached the lake and saw the ship. He stared for a moment at the ship, then someone stepped out of it. "Oh my God..." Iwirt muttered, rushing up to the guy. "Ty Smith?" he asked. "Erm....yeah...." "Work with David about 20 years ago?" "Yeah...and you are...." "Doesn't matter," Iwirt said firmly. "Come with me and get in the truck. Try anything funny and I'll blast your head off." He pulled out a Dracon beam, and Ty followed. Iwirt drove off, with Ty in the passenger seat, and called David. "Hey, you'll never guess what I picked up. Ty Smith. And he's got a pretty sweet ride..." He thought a moment. "I think you'd want to talk to him, and I can come back and get his ship."

David's secretary informed him of Irwit's findings. His secretary was a Yeerk named Salheer. More than David's secretary, Salheer would be his successor when the time came. David knew that that meant. Some day, Salheer would kill him. But he had taken great care to ensure that that would not happen until David let it happen. During his younger days, Salheer had made the mistake of trying to kill him several times. Now, the Yeerk knew better.
"Ty, you say..." David trailed off. Salheer nodded in confirmation. David closed his eyes. Once, Ty had been like the clinically insane older brother David never had. He had fled the planet twenty years ago, leaving everything behind to travel the galaxy with the Yeerk Guraff 427 and his host, a massive Hork-bajir called Seer.. Why would he come back now?
"Have Ty brought directly to me," David ordered Salheer. "Use the private entrance to the fortress. Bring him in by aircraft. And summon Rook. I do not know Ty's intentions. Ty has spent the last twenty years learning from Guraff Four-Two-Seven. If there is one thing that can stop him, it is the man who was once the host to the same Yeerk." Salheer nodded and went off to summon David's bodyguard and give Irwit his orders. David did not know what would happen once Ty got back. But he was sure it was going to be exciting. Things always were once Ty got involved.

Ty found himself being transported by aircraft, now, Iwirt following in Ty's ship. Ty was escorted into the fortress and soon stood before David. He didn't seem to have changed much, but Ty knew that inside, David was more ruthless than he had been 20 years ago. Ty looked at him, and grinned his classic grin. "Hey. Long time no see! So...you wanted to see me?" Ty asked, ready to morph if need be...

Of course Ty would disappear for twenty years, show back up, and act like nothing had ever happened, David said to himself. Where to begin? He supposed the first question was the most obvious. "You are alone. What happened to Guraff?"
He shook his head. "Where the hell have you been, Ty? Why did you leave? And probably most importantly of all, why did you come back now?" Rook seemed to take that last one as a cue to step forward and look menacing. There weren't many people who did that better. Rook used to be Guraff's human host.
He was freed near the middle of the war and was a large factor in wining it. From his time as Guraff's host, he knew things that no one was supposed to. And he was a pretty good soldier, too. Now, he served David. He didn't like David, or agree with most of what he did, but David saved him from the Yeerks. To Rook, that was all that mattered. If anyone was going to bring harm to David, they'd have to go through Rook first. And Rook would like nothing better than to prove that to the traitor who had abandoned Earth and run off with the slug who made Rook's life hell for years.

Ty listened to David, wondering which question to answer first. He looked at Rook. "Calm down, big guy. I'm not going to do anything. Just gonna talk, okay?" He looked back at David, and sighed. "At that point, when the war was dying out, I didn't know what I was going to do next. I was confused, you know? The war was my life back then. And I needed some way to feed my addiction. I know you know how that feels. So, I left...wound up meeting with Guraff and we spent the last 20 years roaming galaxies untold, kicking the all-holy crap out of whoever crossed us." He paused, trying not to show his sorrow about what he was going to say next. "Guraff....is dead...we were attacked on Nyoork...ambushed from behind...I barely made it out alive. Guraff...I buried him there on Nyoork..." He smiled, remembering Guraff's final moments. "Just as he was, with one Nyoork impaled through each elbow blade. As to why I came back....I don't know. I left a lot behind, you know? You, the guys...Carolyn...I just wanted to see if there's any place for me here anymore...and to straighten things out with you....and Carolyn...I did both of you wrong...I did everyone wrong...I wanna make things right..."

"Guraff's dead?" Rook asked. "Then these Nyoork did the galaxy a favor. Seer dead, too?"
David raised a hand, cutting Rook off. "You left more behind than you know, Ty," David said somewhat cryptically. "But I suppose you'll have time to find all that out later. You want to make things right, Ty? What will you do?"

Ty looked at Rook when he made his comment, and had a strong desire to morph and tear his head off right there, for Ty had considered Guraff a friend. He turned his attention to David. "I know things have changed a lot in 20 years...and I intend on sticking around, so I guess I will." He paused for a minute, thinking. That guy who brought me here better be careful with the ship...That's where I live... "David, I do want to make things right again...I'll do whatever it takes to prove myself..."

"We will have to see, Ty," David told him. "Since I know you hate standing around, there is something you can do. Salheer informs me that my men detected some sort of...fluctuation... We are not sure what it was, but it completely overloaded our censors. Rook is going to investigate it. You will go with him."
Rook glared at Ty. He automatically had something against anyone who would call Guraff a friend. He'd do as he was told, but that was it. He definitely would not be going out of his way to make sure Ty got home. He turned to go to follow Salheer to the ship that would take them to the location. "Just stay out of my way," he muttered.

"No prob, David," Ty said after he had finished. He glared back at Rook. He knew right off the bat that he wasn't going to like this guy. He walked with Rook, knowing that they weren't going to get along very well. "You stay outta mine," he snarled. "Look, I gotta get something first, assuming that crazy bald guy with the truck didn't totally destroy my ride." He found the ship in one piece, ran inside, changed into his morphing outfit, and walked into the storage room where he and Guraff had put the "trophies" from their various adventures. Enjoying the memories, he found what he was looking for. A sword crafted from a Kelbrid's stinger. One of Guraff's favorites. Picking it up, he focused his mind, morphing. Moments later, Ty stepped off of the ship, in Seer's form, holding Guraff's sword. "You ready, Rook?" Ty asked as he started to the aircraft David had waiting.

Rook spat on the ground when Ty came out of the ship. "One just isn't bad enough? Now I gotta run around with some damn wannabe clone? At least you don't have his skills. Then you'd be dangerous instead of just pathetic." Rook checked to make sure that all of his assorted weapons were in their proper places beneath his trench coat. "Let's just get this over with."

"Oh, I have skills, Rook." Ty said, making the Hork-Bajir equivalent of his signature grin. "After all, I've traveled and fought side by side with Guraff for 20 years." He decided to leave out the one-on-one fighting they did when they were traveling. He nonchalantly held the sword beside him. "Yeah. Let's get this over with. Maybe afterwards, I can show you what I learned..."

"That'll be a short demonstration," Rook muttered. He took out his communicator. "Alright Salheer. Where the hell are we supposed to go? And what are we looking for?... What do you mean, 'You'll know it if you see it?'...You've got a real complex, you know that?" Rook sighed and shut the device off. To Ty, he said, "Get you're spiked ass in the vehicle."

"Yeah, it will be..." Ty said, his Hork-Bajir ears picking up every word. "Taking you down shouldn't take long..." Ty got into the aircraft. "You're fixin' to get my spiked foot up your...." Ty muttered. "So...what're we lookin' for?"

"According to Salheer, we'll know it when we see it. Something is here that shouldn't be. I don't know what and neither does he. But judging by the massive energy that was released, it should be pretty obvious. Like a f***ing black hole or something like that. Salheer thinks this is the sort of s**t that'd rip open the universe or something. Now I don't know about that, but something that gets him this worked up should be pretty obvious."
